I am writing to urge you to stand strong in support of full funding for Medicaid in the State of Michigan’s budget. The decisions made in the coming days will directly impact seniors, people with disabilities, and their families across our state.

Medicaid is not just a line item—it is a lifeline. Programs like MI Choice Medicaid Waiver, Community Transition Services, and MI Options Counseling keep people at home and in their communities, where care is both more cost-effective and more compassionate than institutional care. For example:

- MI Choice Waiver saves the state roughly 50% compared to nursing home care.
- Community Transition Services help move people out of nursing homes and back home, improving quality of life and saving taxpayer dollars.
- Without stable funding, these services—and the workers who provide them—are at risk.

We cannot balance the budget on the backs of our most vulnerable citizens. Cuts to Medicaid would mean fewer supports, longer waitlists, and families forced into impossible situations.

I ask you to:

1. Reject any cuts that threaten Medicaid services.
2. Fully fund Medicaid to protect seniors and people with disabilities including releasing ARPA funds that could be put to work today.  
3. Protect the Direct Care Workforce (DCWs) by ensuring funding is not cut from the organizations that employ and train these essential workers. Without this investment, agencies will be forced to reduce services, and thousands of vulnerable Michiganders will lose access to the care they rely on.

Michigan’s values are about dignity, independence, and community. Please act now to ensure that the final budget reflects those values.
