MI Options Needs Your Support

Funding for MI Options person-centered options counseling was not included in the Governor’s proposed FY 2027 budget. Advocacy partners across Michigan, including the Michigan Home & Community Services Network (MHCSN), are working together to highlight the critical importance of this program, which requires $13 million to sustain services statewide.

MI Options supports older adults and people with disabilities by providing information and Person-Centered Options Counseling to help individuals make informed decisions and exercise control over their long-term care needs. Long-term services and supports (LTSS) include paid and unpaid medical and personal care services that assist with activities of daily living (such as eating, bathing, and dressing) and instrumental activities of daily living (such as preparing meals, managing medication, and housekeeping).

MI Options is a statewide counseling program that supports more than 2.5 million older adults in Michigan. Launching in July 2025, the program has already provided counseling services to more than 37,000 individuals through its network of grantees.

To ensure MI Options can continue serving Michigan residents, advocates are calling for a $13 million General Fund appropriation in the FY 2027 state budget, consistent with the request from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS). Without this investment, the future of the MI Options program is at serious risk. It is important to note that MI Options Medicare counseling is supported separately through federal funding under the State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP). This federal funding was included in the FY 2026 budget and is not currently at risk.

MI Options Needs Your Support

We need your voice. Contact your state legislators today and urge them to include $13 million in the FY 2027 budget to protect MI Options. This is a small investment that ensures older adults across Michigan can access the guidance they need to stay independent, informed, and supported.
